Philly’s The Describers Announce New Album ‘Ghost in the Rearview’ Coming Oct. 28 with New Single Out Sept. 27

Album Preorders Also Start Sept. 27 with Release of New Song ‘Don’t Care to Think’

After a few years of fits and starts, countless unused DAW sessions and the occasional single drop, Philly’s The Describers will finally release their next full-length album “Ghost in the Rearview” Oct. 28 and a brand new single Sept. 27.

In their latest single, “Don’t Care to Think,” The Describers try futilely to ignore their regrets and a multiverse of what ifs to the sounds of a laid back groove.

“Damn the ghost in the rearview,” the song begins, name-checking the album (golf clap) and highlighting a theme that appears throughout the album’s eight tracks

The Describers were formed and led by singer-songwriter Jason McGovern, a singer-songwriter whose songs vary from introspective folk and rootsy rock to synthy new wave experiments. Each of these styles find a home on “Ghost in the Rearview,” anchored by McGovern’s introspective, esoteric and occasionally sarcastic lyrics.

“Ghost in the Rearview” was largely performed, recorded and mixed by McGovern at his home studio, the Eel Diner Jukebox. The album also features drummers Dan Nazario (The Tisburys, Teethcutter, Elijah Ehrhart), whose parts were recorded by Justin Nazario at Sound Splitter Studio, and Andrew Huston (another Philly singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist). The album was mastered by Ryan Schwabe.

Aside from his Describer pursuits, McGovern also plays keyboards for Philly favorites The Tisburys, performing on their upcoming album in 2022, and helped produce their 2021 EP “Pictures of Fireworks.” He also collaborates with other artists in the Philadelphia region representing a wide range of styles, including the aforementioned Andrew Huston and folk mainstay Kyle Swartzwelder.

“Don’t Care to Think” and preorders for “Ghost in the Rearview” are available Sept. 27 from Eel Diner Jukebox.
